About
Levenshulme News is a free, independent news source, online and in print. The idea is to reflect what's happening in this part of south Manchester. We want to highlight issues, tell people's stories and provide information that helps people understand how their community works.
Please get in touch if you've got a story, or would like to get involved, at [email protected]. It's run by two people at the moment but we'd love more people to get involved. We're covering the costs ourselves and secured a council grant of £300 in the summer of 2020, as well as some generous donations from readers in 2021 and 2023. If you can help in any way towards our printing costs, please use the button below! Jim Graham is the editor. He's been a newspaper and radio journalist for quite a long time. Locally, he's volunteered at All FM since 2011 where he launched a Sunday morning show called Charity Shop Classics. He says: "I wanted to set up a trusted source of news that highlights what's going on, holds authority to account, and gives people a chance to write about their neighbourhood. We started off small, and we're still finding our way, working out the best way to get news out there using a mix of social media and a printed newsletter." Laura Deane is the designer. She has taught A-level Photography, Graphic Design and Fine Art for many, many years, and also manages Levenshulme Old Library, which is a community arts centre, housing ALLfm and a host of groups and organisations. She is also a freelance artist, working with photography, paper, bookmaking, textiles and collage when time and the creative urge permits. She says: "getting involved with Levenshulme News gave me a renewed pleasure in working in my community. I love bringing Jim's and the other contributors' writing to life through designing the newsletter, and seeing the printed copy ready to go out into Levenshulme. I'd love to help grow the publication." |
THANK YOU to our volunteers and stockists in and around Levenshulme!
